When Rafa intersection begins nine months later, Palestinian patients enter Egypt | Israel and Palestine conflict news

The Lafa border was opened for the first time in almost nine months to allow Gaza’s illness or injured Palestinian patients to travel to Egypt for overseas treatment.

The Ministry of Health on Saturday said that a group of 50 patients with 61 caregivers had crossed Rafa to reach Egypt.

On the Egyptian television, Palestine’s Red Cross ambulance was raised to the intersection, several children were taken to the stretcher and moved to an ambulance on the Egyptian side.

Many patients suffered from chronic diseases, including cancer, and were unable to receive treatment during the 15 -month war in Israel.

On January 19, a total of 400 Palestinians will leave Gaza as part of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel.

The resumption of Rafa intersection represents an important breakthrough to strengthen transactions. Israel agreed to resume intersection after Hamas released the last living woman’s prisoner in Gaza.

The opening of a major border intersection came immediately after Hamas, which released three Israeli prisoners on Saturday in exchange for more than 180 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prison.

“I hope the number will increase.”

Mohamed Zakuout, the director of the Ministry of Health Health Hospital, has been ready for more than 6,000 Palestinian patients to evacuate abroad, and at least 12,000 patients needed treatment urgently. 。

He stated that the small number set to evacuate would not cover the need. “And we hope we have an increase.”

Alwa Damon (INARA), the founder of international assistance, rescue, and support, explains to Al Jazira the “troublesome” process to take about 2,500 Palestinian children who need life -saving medical care from Gaza. I did.

She said she would apply for a medical evacuation for her child’s parents or parents. Later, the Ministry of Health in Gaza reviews the case and puts the patient in the category according to the urgency.

“Then there is an overall adjustment effort that must be caused by cleaning up all of the names that Israel are demanding to evacuate,” said Damon.

“And you need the overall mechanism that you agree to actually drive the children from Gaza and receive the third country for treatment and who actually take them.”

Damon stated that it was “always very painful,” and the “very slow” process said, “I couldn’t get treatment for everyone who needed it.”

Following Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack, Geno Side, a 15 -month -old Genocide on Israel, has not been operated by Gaza’s health sector and most hospitals.

Tens of thousands of Palestinians who were injured by Israel’s bombardment and ground attack are suffering due to appropriate lack of medical care.

The Israeli army closed the Rafa intersection in May 2024. Egypt continued to a suit by closing the side of the aisle in a protest.

Even before the Gaza War, the Palestinians relyed on intersections, and regularly applied for permission to travel outside territory for life -saving treatment that could not be used in chemotherapy.

The management of intersection is embedded with complexity.

Israel has long been accused of smuggling weapons using border control. It is the claim that Egypt has denied. Israel has also refused Palestinian authorities (PA) to officially take over the management of intersections.

Instead, the intersection is located at the Palestinians from Gaza, who had previously served as a PA border officer, but spoke to the AP telecommunications company on the condition of anonymous.

As before in 2007, there are monitors from the European Union.

“We will support Palestinian border staff and allow personal relocation from Gaza, including those who need medical care,” said KAJA KALLAS, the director of the EU’s foreign policy, mentions the monitoring mission at the intersection. I am writing about X.
