The Philadelphia Eagles ran through Washington, winning 55-23 and reaching their second Super Bowl in three years.
Washington made a surprise run to the brink of their first Super Bowl since 1992, but their dreams died when they couldn’t deal with Philadelphia’s devastating run game.
The Eagles won Super Bowl 59 as slight favorites heading into Sunday’s NFC Championship Game with this season’s rushing leader Saquon Barkley scoring twice in the first quarter.
Philadelphia led 27-15 at halftime before Barkley and quarterback Jalen Hurts finished with three rushing touchdowns.
Barkley had 118 rushing yards and 229 total as the Eagles had the highest score in the conference championship.
Seeking to become the first rookie quarterback to reach the Super Bowl, a touchdown from Jaden Daniels helped Washington cut the score to 34-23 in the third quarter.
However, the Commanders’ hopes were thwarted by four turnovers, each of which Philadelphia punished with a touchdown.
The Eagles will appear in their fifth Super Bowl in New Orleans on Sunday, February 9, in what could be a rematch of their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs two years ago.
The Chiefs will look to continue their quest for a third straight Super Bowl win as they host the Buffalo Bills in the second half of the AFC Championship Game.
