Fashion trend predictions for 2025 have arrived. There’s good news and bad news. The bad news is that the coldest month of the year is still ahead of us. So you can’t put on your shoes right away, but the good news is that the days are getting longer and spring is approaching. I don’t know about you, but I’m already looking forward to changing my wardrobe once the leaves start sprouting again.
The Spring/Summer 2025 runways gave us plenty of sartorial inspiration to look forward to. First, the understated trend is very 2024. This year, designers pulled out all the stops and sent 3D florals and bright green looks down the catwalk. As the world relapses into craft and haute couture, colors and collars are vibrant and a new wave of romanticism is taking hold.
So what exactly are we going to wear as soon as the temperatures hit double digits? Here are the top 2025 fashion trends you need to know for the upcoming season.
1. good sport
First there was gorpcore, then athleisure has infiltrated brands and catwalks, but this season sportswear is taking on a hybrid form. Instead of a full tracksuit look or luxe loungewear, the focus is on hoodies and visors worn over sequined dresses, as seen at Prada, Burberry and Rabanne. Blurring the lines between formal and casual wear, this trend pretty much sums up and encompasses the dichotomy of the modern woman’s wardrobe.
2. Like a Lady
Beyond Miu Miu’s micro miniskirts, midi skirts are back (thankfully). A staple in many working women’s wardrobes, this item has been given a high-fashion twist thanks to the likes of Tory Burch and Michael Kors. In fact, ladylike silhouettes featuring sophisticated tops in delicate fabrics and matching skirts are making a comeback, styled with pointy, office-appropriate pumps, of course. Working Girl, let’s set it to 2025.
3. Bow
Bows have taken over the bridal industry and hair trends for the past few years, but the beautiful detail is starting to trickle into ready-to-wear as well. Whether it was Acne Studios’ striking mint green dress or Richard Quinn’s tulle confectionery, gorgeous dresses big and small were adorned with ribbons throughout Fashion Week. I love how details can add drama to a look without going for loud prints or colors. A fashion gift that will last forever.
4. Fairy layer
We’re never going to get carried away with the gorgeousness of a sheer outfit, but pastel is the way to go in 2025 for a last-minute look. Designers from Chanel, Sportsmax and No.21 demonstrated the method, layering fairy layers of tulle to create a light beauty with textured depth. Be sure to invest in some equally great underwear to wear with it too.
5. Sculpture Garden
Bold flowers are getting even bolder this spring, with designers adding 3D effects to coats and gowns and similarly adorning intricate buds. Flowers dripped down velvet slip dresses at Bottega Veneta, while at Marine Serre they appeared to be growing over coats. At Carolina Herrera, blue daisy sequins were sprinkled throughout a simple black tube dress.
6. Make it work
Designers reimagine the humble cargo fabric every season, and this year they decided to give it a romantic twist. Imagine a cargo jacket turned into a dress and a deconstructed bomber jacket with princess sleeves. Practical jackets left the countryside and came dressed up to the office. Who would have thought khaki could be so formal?
7. Mocha Mousse
Last year, Pantone declared “Mocha Mousse” the color of 2025. No matter how you feel about the soft, warm brown color reminiscent of fluffy French desserts, there’s no denying that brown has become the hero color for the end of 2024. It’s a big surprise that its lighter cousin will be in the spotlight this spring. After all, it’s a soothing, versatile shade that goes well with pastels, as seen at Fendi, and sophisticated suit shapes, as seen at Tory Burch.
8. Pistachio
If you’re looking for a little more color stimulation for spring, you’re in luck. Delicious greenery is coming. Pistachio is going to be everywhere this spring, a bright, nutty shade somewhere between milky match and forest green that will instantly make any outfit the center of attention. It’s truly a new neutral.
9. Frilled collar
A little less pirate-y and more Renaissance-y, Saint Laurent is at the forefront of this trend. Their ’80s-inspired runway featured rusty ruffled tops layered under boxy jackets and layered skirts, Valentino’s fluttery collars over dresses and tights, a nod to the ’40s. It dates back to the 1950s. The nostalgic appeal of fashion meant that ruffled colors were making a comeback.
