OpenAI CEO Sam Altman confirms o3 Mini AI model will be available in the coming weeks

OpenAI, the Microsoft-backed artificial intelligence pioneer, is preparing to release its latest inference AI model, o3 mini, in the next two weeks. CEO Sam Altman confirmed the development in a post on social media platform X on Friday.

This deployment includes both an application programming interface (API) and an updated version of ChatGPT and reflects OpenAI’s commitment to integrating user feedback into product launches.

The o3 mini model builds on the momentum of OpenAI’s previous releases. Last December, the company announced that it was testing o3 and o3 mini, advanced inference models designed to handle more complex tasks compared to previous versions. These models aim to surpass previous models in areas such as science, mathematics, and coding.

In September 2024, OpenAI introduced the o1 AI model, which focuses on tackling more difficult queries by allocating more time to processing. The company described these models as a breakthrough in solving complex problems.

“The upcoming o3 and o3 mini models have significantly improved capabilities and are designed to handle even more challenging tasks,” OpenAI previously said.

OpenAI’s advances come amid increasing competition from tech giants like Google and Apple. Just this week, the company announced a beta feature called Tasks for ChatGPT, entering the virtual assistant space alongside Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa.

We would like to thank the external safety researchers who tested o3-mini.

We are currently finalizing the version and starting the release process. ~Scheduled to ship within the next few weeks.

We also received feedback that we plan to launch the API and chatgpt at the same time.

(Very good.)

The company’s rapid innovation has boosted investor confidence, and OpenAI was able to secure $6.6 billion in funding in October. The initial release of ChatGPT in late 2022 sparked a global AI investment frenzy and established OpenAI as a leader in generative AI.

OpenAI originally planned to launch the o3 mini at the end of January, followed by the introduction of the full o3 model. These robust large-scale language models are expected to outperform existing AI tools, potentially creating new investment and user growth opportunities.
