Carol Surface, former chief human resources officer at Apple, has been selected by HP for the role of chief human resources officer. Her stint at Apple lasted almost two years.
Surface, who holds a doctorate in industrial and organizational psychology from Central Michigan University, was EVP and chief human resources officer at Medtronic before joining Apple in March 2023. She worked for a medical device manufacturing company for over nine and a half years from 2013 to 2023.
With a bachelor’s degree in psychology, Carol Surface began her professional career at PepsiCo in 2000. She joined Pepsi International as Director of Organizational and Management Development. Within three years, she was promoted to vice president and human resources at China Beverage. This role relocated her from New York to Hong Kong. From 2003 to 2007, he served as Chief Human Resources Officer for Asia. A further promotion brought her back to New York as chief human resources officer for PepsiCo International. By the time Surface moved from PepsiCo in 2009, she had become chief human resources officer for Asia, Middle East and Africa, based in Dubai.

Her next stop was Best Buy, where she served as executive vice president and chief human resources officer for just under four years, serving the Minneapolis metropolitan area.
Her involvement with Medtronic began in September 2013. She successfully held the EVP and CHRO role at Medtronic for over nine and a half years before joining Apple as CPO in 2023.
Carol Surface is vice president of the HR Policy Association, co-chair of Gartner’s CHRO Leadership Board, and a member of the advisory board of the University of South Carolina Center for Executive Succession.
