President-elect Donald Trump and running mate J.D. Vance had lunch with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Elon Musk on Wednesday, according to a person briefed on the meeting. That’s what it means.

Microsoft President Brad Smith also attended the rally at Mar-a-Lago, a sign of increasingly close ties between the tech industry and President Trump following his November election victory. This is the latest example.

Microsoft is one of the big tech companies most likely to gain or lose from a changing of the guard in Washington.

The federal government is a large customer of the Windows operating system and Office software. And it is the primary provider of cloud computing infrastructure for nearly every government agency.

Today, Microsoft is one of a handful of companies attempting to build unprecedented computing power to satisfy consumers and businesses’ insatiable appetite for artificial intelligence models.

Microsoft said in a written statement that two of its executives had a “productive meeting” to discuss cybersecurity, technology policy and the $80 billion Microsoft plans to invest in AI infrastructure around the world this year.
