Wait, Apple Vision Pro isn’t black, right? No, but Play For Dream MR is possible. And Play For Dream, which some people are calling “Android Vision Pro” because of its Android-based OS, seemed to make a splash at CES 2025 last week.
First launched in Asia last year, China-based headset creator Play For Dream aimed to bring its Vision Pro-inspired mixed reality headset to the West. Play For Dream MR launched its Kickstarter campaign in September and raised HK$2,271,650.00 (approximately US$292,000).
Play For Dream MR comes with a ton of the latest XR features, including a Snapdragon The list is packed. It also has a back-mounted battery and Touch-style controller inspired by the Quest Pro.
So the headset seems to have everything, including the Vision Pro’s user interface.
Design inspiration aside, former Quest engineer Amanda Watson had the chance to get hands-on with Play For Dream’s MR headset, writing in a post on It was definitely the best.”
“It’s literally ‘Android Apple Vision Pro,’ but the execution was great: great performance, optics, UI, media capture/playback capabilities,” continued Watson, who left Meta in 2022.
While at Meta/Oculus, Watson worked on numerous Quest-related projects, including both Tether Link and Air Link, the company’s Wi-Fi streaming tool. At one time, she was Air Link’s sole developer for 13 months before its release. So if Watson says something is good, it probably is.
“It has USB and wireless PCVR streaming (I tried USB), which had higher quality (frame rate and latency) compared to other features (in development), but (from my understanding) ) It’s a relatively recent feature.” The basics, such as controller movement, were well established, and the resolution was solid. ”
Additionally, Watson reports that the touch-style controller was also “very nice.” They said hand tracking existed, but didn’t demonstrate it. ” In particular, the headset’s pancake lens has “great distortion correction,” which Watson says is “the biggest thing for me personally.”
Founded in 2020 under the name YVR, Play For Dream has already launched two generations of standalone VR headsets, YVR 1 and YVR 2, both of which were launched in China in 2022.
