PM Modi discusses cooperation with Singapore’s chip manufacturing sector

Singapore:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Thursday visited AEM Holdings, a leading company in the semiconductor and electronics sector, and discussed opportunities for cooperation.

Prime Minister Modi also invited Singapore semiconductor companies to participate in the exhibition ‘SEMICON INDIA’ to be held in Greater Noida from September 11 to 13.

The Prime Minister also invited Indian interns from the World Skills Center in Odisha who are undergoing training in Singapore and who are visiting India under the CII-Enterprise Singapore India Ready Talent Programme, the MEA statement said. I also interacted with Singaporean interns and Indian interns. Engineers working in AEM facilities.

The two leaders were briefed on AEM’s role in the global semiconductor value chain, its operations and plans for India.

The Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association briefed on the development of the semiconductor ecosystem in Singapore and opportunities for cooperation with India. Representatives from several other Singaporean companies in the sector were also present.

“Given our country’s efforts towards developing the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India and Singapore’s strengths in this field, both sides have decided to expand bilateral cooperation,” the MEA said.

At the second meeting of the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, the two countries agreed to add advanced manufacturing, with a focus on semiconductors, as a pillar of strengthening bilateral cooperation.

According to the MEA, the two countries also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on India-Singapore Semiconductor Ecosystem Partnership.

“This visit by the two Prime Ministers underscores their determination to develop cooperation in this field. Prime Minister Modi thanked Prime Minister Wong for joining him on this visit,” the MEA statement said. He expressed his gratitude for this.”

Earlier this week, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Modi approved Keynes Semicon Ltd.’s proposal to set up a semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat, with an investment of Rs 3,300 crore. The proposed unit under the Indian Semiconductor Mission (ISM) will produce around 6 million chips per day.

In March, Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for three semiconductor projects worth Rs 1.25 billion. According to reports, India’s semiconductor-related market will reach $64 billion in 2026, almost three times the size of 2019.
