Sundar Pichai teases new Google AI features in ‘coming months’

As 2025 begins, CEO Sundar Pichai reiterated to Googlers how new AI products and features will arrive in the coming months.

In an email to employees seen by 9to5Google, Pichai hinted Wednesday that “[Google]will be rolling out products and features in the coming months.” No details other than to say “progress is great.”

We ended 2024 on a very high note with Gemini 2.0, Willow, Veo 2, and many innovations across search, YouTube, cloud, Android, Pixel, and more. The foundation of all this is technology and AI leadership, enabled by our full-stack approach, and people are inspired by what we’ve built.

As we begin the year, I’m reviewing demos of products and features that we’ll be rolling out in the coming months. This progress has been amazing and we are confident that this momentum will continue in 2025.

Just today, Google began testing Daily Listen in Search Labs, a personalized podcast where users talk about stories and topics that interest them.

Meanwhile, Google announced in December that Gemini 2.0 Flash would be generally available to developers in January. Hopefully that will coincide with Gemini app 2.0 Flash dropping its “experimental” status. We’re also waiting to find out what “2.0 Experimental Advanced” for paid subscribers will ultimately look like when it’s released.

Additionally, NotebookLM Plus will be available to Google One subscribers in “early 2025.” More broadly, Gemini 2.0 will be rolled out to “more Google products” early this year, including AI Overview in Search.

This “next few months” period also coincides with Google I/O, which traditionally takes place in early May.

Pichai’s memo to Googlers also emphasized “the urgency of the moment, the speed at which technology is evolving, and the opportunity to reimagine our products and processes for a new era.” The letter ends with the message, “How thousands of Google employees are responding to the devastating wildfires across Southern California.”

Google has launched an employee matching program and the Google.org philanthropic arm will “provide funds to support relief and recovery efforts.” The company published a post this evening detailing its efforts.

People in affected areas can access example SOS alerts, public alerts, and wildfire boundaries across Google Search and Maps. Road closure information is available on both Google Maps and Waze, which also provides emergency shelter locations. These alerts and resources are continuously updated to provide important safety information from trusted sources.
