Elon Musk’s involvement in British politics has sparked fresh debate as the tech billionaire faces serious criminal charges as he bids to run for British Prime Minister. The Daily Beast reported that he has expressed support for kickboxer Andrew Tate.
Mr Musk, who has previously called on Charles III to dissolve Parliament and call a general election, has been vocal about his concerns about child grooming gangs in Britain.
Despite a national inquiry already underway, Mr Musk criticized Labor leader Keir Starmer for not tackling the issue more thoroughly and even called for his resignation on the X account. Now, despite Tate’s controversial past, Musk appears to be backing Tate’s political ambitions.
Musk backed a post praising Tate’s entry into British politics, agreeing with a statement that Tate’s actions could “transform British politics” and create a movement of people demanding change. Tate, who was previously expelled from X for comments about sexual assault, recently announced his intention to run for British Prime Minister despite his lack of political experience and fundamental misunderstanding of British politics. In a post addressed to X’s millions of followers, he jokingly asked whether he should stand for election to “save Britain”.
A self-proclaimed misogynist, Tate is known for his extremist views and alleged crimes including rape and human trafficking. He and his brother have been charged in Romania with the exploitation of women, and both will be extradited to the UK to face additional charges. Tate denies all charges.
Mr Tate has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the British government, claiming that the country is in decline under its current leadership. In a video clip, he criticized the “generational failure” of British politics. In a post earlier this week, Mr Tate referred to himself as the “unofficial British Prime Minister” and expressed support for the US annexation of Greenland.
Mr Musk’s support for Mr Tate, who has ties to far-right groups, has raised concerns. His past support for people like Tommy Robinson, a convicted felon known for his racist behavior, has already come under fire. Robinson is jailed for defaming Syrian refugees, and Musk has consistently called for his release.
Mr. Musk responded to a post by “It will be,” it was written.
The post also added: “Even if he doesn’t win and become Prime Minister, his involvement will transform British politics and create an army of people demanding change.”
Conservative Party spokeswoman Alicia Kearns accused Musk of sharing content without critical thought, saying his support for figures like Robinson and Tate was a sign of support for victims of rape gangs. He said it hurt feelings and was “frankly dangerous.”
Musk’s growing influence in British politics has been controversial, with many British leaders urging them to stay away from him and pointing out his lack of understanding of British politics.
