‘Grimm’ movie in development at Peacock

Grimm is back from the dead – this time in the form of a movie.

Peacock is developing a feature-length reboot of the fantasy cop drama that aired for six seasons on NBC from 2011 to 2017, Variety has confirmed.

Josh Berman, creator of Lifetime’s Drop Dead Divas, is writing the Grimm movie, along with original series showrunners David Greenwald and Jim Kuch, as well as the original EP. He is executive producing with Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner. Milliner’s Hazy Mills Productions and Universal Television are the studios behind the reboot.

The plot and cast of Grimm are being kept secret, but the original series stars David Giuntoli as Nick Burkhardt, a Portland homicide detective who discovers he is a Grimm. He is a guardian sworn to protect the balance between humanity and mythical creatures. As Wessen. Throughout the series, Nick takes on a variety of menacing foes with the help of his wolf-like Wessen sidekick Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and partner detective Hank Griffin (Russell Hornsby).

Rounding out the ensemble were Bitsy Tulloch, Sasha Royce, Reggie Lee, Bree Turner, and Claire Coffee. Recurring cast members included Danny Bruno, Jacqueline Toboni, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Damian Puckler.

This isn’t the first time the studio has worked on a Grimm revival. In 2018, NBC announced a spinoff of the series with writer and executive producer Melissa Glenn and much of the original creative team. The network said the spinoff was intended to “build on the mythology of the original series” and feature “new characters” with “returning fan favorites.” However, this series never went beyond development.
