RIYADH: Located in Al Rais Governorate in north-eastern Jizan, the Al Qakhar Mountains are a stunning testament to the natural beauty, the region’s rich history and the appeal of adventure.

These mountains are more than 2,000 meters above sea level and are among Saudi Arabia’s most prominent natural landmarks, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

These are part of the Sarawat Mountains, which extend along the west coast of the Arabian Peninsula.

The Al Qakhar Mountains are a famous destination for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts, featuring unique topography including high rocky peaks and deep valleys such as Wadi Rajab. The latter offers panoramic views where vertical rock formations meet flowing water, creating a breathtaking sight.

SPA added that the Jizan area is adorned with seasonal plants such as juniper and acacia trees, making it especially beautiful during the rainy season.

The Al Qakhar Mountains also contain ancient rock carvings that reflect the civilizations that once lived in the area. Research has shown that the mountains served as important trade routes for caravans in the past, highlighting their economic and social importance.

The name Al Qahal, meaning ruler, comes from its rugged terrain, which has inspired local residents to create stories and legends that have been passed down through the generations.

The Jazan Authority is implementing comprehensive development and service projects in Al Rais Governorate, providing promising investment opportunities in the tourism sector that leverage the region’s natural and historical assets.

This development is not limited to Al Rais but extends to all governorates in the region to support and strengthen the tourism industry infrastructure.

The tourist attractions of Al Qajal Mountains attract both locals and tourists throughout the year.

According to Ahmad Al Wabrani, the main tourist attractions include Wadi Rajab, the Hanging Gardens and the huge caves that attract adventure and camping enthusiasts.

Mr. Faisal Al Laiti emphasized the strong ties between the local population and the Al Qajal Mountains and praised the Heritage Committee’s efforts in documenting rock carvings and developing the area.

The Al Qajal Mountains are set in unspoiled nature, offering a vibrant natural landscape and a testament to the region’s history and culture.

Visitors can enjoy the region’s natural splendor and embark on an unforgettable adventure in a serene atmosphere boasting awe-inspiring views.
