On December 30, the head of the Kiev City Military Department, Serhiy Popko, announced that Russia had launched over 1,300 drones and over 250 missiles of various types against Kiev in 2024.

Throughout the year, the capital endured more than 500 air raid sirens and nearly 200 air strikes.

Among the missiles targeting Kiev were more than 200 cruise missiles, including Kh-101, Kh-59, Kh-69, Iskander-K, Kalibr, and 24 ballistic missiles, including Iskander-M and KN-23. , which included 22 air-launched ballistic missiles. The missiles include the Kinzhal hypersonic missile and seven Zircon hypersonic missiles, Popko said.

“These are scary numbers. But the most frightening fact is that these rockets and drones killed people and destroyed their homes,” Popko wrote on Telegram.

In 2024, nearly 550 homes in Kyiv were damaged by Russian attacks, leaving about 120 people homeless, Popko said.

“But the state will rebuild everything and ensure housing for everyone, including Kievians whose homes were destroyed by the invaders and internally displaced Ukrainians who call the capital their home,” he added, adding that in Kiev He pointed out that the number of internally displaced persons has increased by nearly 11,000. (internally displaced persons) in the past year

Popko said energy infrastructure was also heavily targeted, forcing Kyiv residents to endure about 100 days of power outages, with power outages lasting an average of nine hours a day.

“Although Kiev has not been officially considered a potential hostile region for two years, the war ‘reminds’ us of this every day,” he wrote.

Earlier, on December 29, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced that Russia had escalated its airstrikes against Ukraine, launching over 280 KAB-guided bombs, about 370 attack drones, and more than 80 KAB-guided bombs in the past week. He said he had fired a missile.

“Our cities and communities are under constant Russian attack. Even on Christmas night, Russia planned a large-scale airstrike,” Zelenskiy wrote on Telegram, showing footage of destruction across Ukraine. shared.

However, Popko ended his statement on a positive note, saying that some 21,000 babies will be born in Kyiv hospitals in 2024.
