Washington DC:
Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, said Saturday that she has withdrawn her name from consideration for the Senate seat. Trump, who is married to Donald Trump’s son Eric Trump, resigned this month as co-chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), leading to speculation that he could replace outgoing Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. Speculation is increasing.
President-elect Trump nominated Rubio as secretary of state. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to select a successor for Rubio, who is expected to resign from the Senate when President Trump takes office on January 20.
Lara Trump wrote to X that she made the decision to remove herself from consideration “after an incredible amount of thought, deliberation, and encouragement from so many people.” He said he wishes Florida Gov. DeSantis the best of luck in choosing a successor to serve out the remainder of Rubio’s six-year term, which runs through 2026.
“I could not be more honored to serve as co-chair of the RNC during the most high-stakes election of our lifetimes. I am truly humbled by the incredible support you have given me, Florida State,” she posted.
After thought, reflection, and encouragement from an incredible number of people, I have decided to remove my name from consideration in the United States Senate.

She said there would be a “big announcement” in January, but gave no details. Trump added that he remains passionate about public service and looks forward to serving again in the future.
DeSantis said last month that a selection would likely occur by early January, although he noted there was already strong interest from potential candidates.
Trump (born October 12, 1982, real name Lara Lee Yunaska) is an American television producer, campaign adviser, and former television host. She was elected co-chair of the RNC in March, cementing her influence over her father-in-law’s presidential bid.
She, along with her husband, Eric Trump, and brother-in-law, Don Jr., have emerged as one of the leading campaign surrogates for Republican candidates in the lead-up to the election.
