Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep displayed admirable resilience to put together a brilliant 10-wicket partnership for India on the fourth day of the third Test match against Australia in Brisbane on Tuesday. With the Test match slowly heading towards a draw, this partnership ensured that India avoided a follow-up. It was a tough final session for India as they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, and there was a sense of tension in the dressing room. In a video that has gone viral, Virat Kohli can be seen going through a range of emotions before erupting in jubilation as India avoided a follow-on in a crucially close match.

India’s Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep pulled off an unlikely 10-wicket partnership on Tuesday to avoid a follow-up and put the third Test against Australia in Brisbane on course for a draw.

When the pair met, the tourists still needed 33 runs for Australia to come into bat again at the Gabba on another day due to a rain delay.

However, under gloomy skies, the pair managed to see off Australia’s vaunted pace attack on the fourth day, leaving the home side frustrated.

Deep scored the crucial score with an edge to the boundary line from Australian captain Pat Cummins just beyond the outstretched hand of Nathan McSweeney.

He then nailed a two-ball, hitting Cummins to deep midwicket for a massive six, leaving India trailing by 193 at 252-9 before the umpire sent him off for bad light.

The five-game series is currently settled at 1 win and 1 loss.

Opener KL Rahul, who top-scored with 84, said the lower order batsmen showed how much fight this Indian team has.

Deep had 27 not out and Bumrah had 10 not out.

“The lower scores are being discussed in meetings,” Rahul said.

“The bowlers have been working hard on their batting as well so it’s good to see them getting some partnership.

“Avoiding that kind of follow-on makes a big difference.”
