Welcome to our weekend roundup of what’s new on Netflix and what’s trending on Netflix Top 10 for the past 7 days! 30 new releases were released this week, so take a look at them all now!
There are a few titles I’m looking forward to heading into the weekend. On Sunday, a multi-season Australian documentary series about marginalized people asking questions they’re usually too scared to ask will be released. Also added on Sunday is the first season of the classic soccer anime series “Captain Tsubasa,” as well as a new Christmas-themed doc about the British group “Wham!” The title is Wham! The last Christmas wrapping has been unwrapped.
Just in case, check out our updated list of everything coming to Netflix for the rest of December and what’s coming in January.
What to watch on Netflix this weekend
Carry-on (2024)
Rating: PG-13
Language: English
Genre: Action, Crime, Mystery
Director: Jaume Collet-Serra
Screenplay: TJ Fixman, Michael Green
Running time: 119 minutes / 1 hour 59 minutes
Netflix’s big movie for December is Carry On, starring Taron Egerton, Jason Bateman, and Sofia Carson. A young TSA agent tries to outwit a mysterious traveler who blackmails him into slipping dangerous luggage onto a Christmas Eve flight.
Our critic gave the film a 3-star rating and concluded:
“A brilliant, tense thriller with a PG-13 punch. Another addition to the “Die Hard on a…” subgenre, although it doesn’t quite have the flair or charm of John McClane. , Egerton and Bateman should be more than enough to entice Netflix fans. ”
No Good Deeds (Season 1)
Number of episodes: 8 episodes
Rating: TV-MA
Language: English
Genre: Comedy
Cast: Denis Leary, Ray Romano, Linda Cardellini
The creators of Netflix’s hit series Dead to Me are back with their next installment. The film is a complex comedy about multiple families competing (literally fighting) for what everyone believes will be their dream home. Critics have been mostly positive (it fell short of expectations, but it’s still a good watch), with most praising the performances of the famous cast and the excellent script.
It Ends with Us (2024)
Rating: PG-13
Language: English
Genre: Drama, Romance
Director: Justin Baldoni
Cast: Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, Jenny Slate
Screenplay: Christy Hall, Colleen Huber
Runtime: 130 minutes / 2 hours 10 minutes
The romantic comedy starring Blake Lively made its streaming debut on Netflix following its summer theatrical release. This week it was ranked as Google’s most searched movie of 2024, but it’s had a somewhat weak start in Netflix’s top 10 so far.
The film, which grossed more than $350 million at the box office, centers on a woman who moves to Boston and tries to get her life back on track after falling head over heels under a neurosurgeon’s care. Things take a turn when he exhibits behavior that reminds her of her traumatic childhood, and things spiral from there. Critics were not too enthusiastic about the film, but as box office numbers show, it turned out to be a complete crowd-pleaser.
