In America’s biggest Arab enclave, where President Joe Biden’s frustration over Gaza’s genocide policy, led to many Donald Trump, rage has grown over the president’s explosive proposal to seize control of Palestinian territory .
But Dearborn voters say their only viable option in 2024 was to punish Democrats and harness their influence as a minority community on their central issues.
“I don’t regret voting,” said Samra Lukman, a 110,000 political activist in this Detroit suburb.
Dearborn, formerly a Democratic base, saw Trump win 42.5% of the vote in November, followed by Kamala Harris at 36.3% and Green Party candidate Jill Stein at 18.3%.
“We’ve seen a wonderful return march that I can’t even explain,” said Lekuman, 42. She believed in Trump that it allowed a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
