One of the most infamous moments in the Royal Rumble match occurred in 1998 when Mick Foley made three appearances as Cactus Jack, Mankind, and Dude Love. The concept of wrestlers competing in multiple matches under different personas was supposed to be recreated by WWE Hall of Famer Charles Wright, best known as The Godfather.
The Godfather spoke on his podcast “Poddin’ Ain’t Easy” about how plans to return to the ring were scrapped.
“When COVID-19 happened, I agreed to come out to it (Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale) and it was like I was going to come out as Karma and be eliminated, and as the Godfather. I’m going to come back and get eliminated. ‘And I was going to…I don’t even remember what happened, at the end there was Papa Shango and the lights went out and whoever was left, everyone (laughing in character) ), and I know the coronavirus hit and they didn’t do it,” the Godfather revealed.
Since its debut at WrestleMania 30 in 2014, 2020 was the only year in which the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal was not held. The Godfather’s appearance was supposed to take place at WrestleMania 36, but it was a risk for WWE due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Approximately 20 participants will be in the ring from the start, resulting in many people coming into close contact at once.
“It was tough because they were so PG and when the audience saw me they wanted to scream, ‘Where’s the hoe?’” The Godfather said. “You might be putting me down…I wouldn’t be (surprised) if they came out on Netflix. I mean, I’m still under contract. I’m still under contract with them, so you You’ll probably see it too,” I pop up. ”
