Apple began enhancing Siri’s capabilities with Apple Intelligence features in iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2, with additional “Siri” updates expected in iOS 18 and iOS 19 in 2025. By this time next year, Siri should be even smarter. The changes Apple is planning are in line with what the company says is coming.
Features added in iOS 18
The best new feature, Siri, hasn’t been added yet, but Apple previewed them at WWDC when Apple Intelligence was first announced. These changes will be introduced in iOS 18.4 in the spring.
personal background
Siri tracks emails, messages, files, photos, and more based on personal context. If it’s on your device, “Siri” knows where it is and where it came from.
Using this information, Siri can better find what you’re looking for, whether it’s the flight number of an email you receive, a file you download, or a photo someone sends you.
Siri also uses your personal context to learn more about you. That means Siri will be better able to help you complete tasks and keep track of everything on your device.
Here is an example provided by Apple:
Play the podcast that Jamie recommended. When will your mother’s plane land?
On-screen recognition
Siri knows what’s on your screen, so you can refer to what you’re looking at when making a request. For example, if someone texts you an address, you can tell Siri to add this to your contacts, and Siri will know what you’re saying. .
On-screen recognition essentially allows Siri to perform actions related to any information on your iPhone or iPad’s display.
In iOS 18.2, Siri can send screenshots of your display to ChatGPT, and ChatGPT can perform some of this same functionality, but Apple says ChatGPT integration will be available in future screens introduced to Siri. It has been clarified that this is not the same as the above recognition function.
App integration
Siri has deeper app integration, allowing the personal assistant to perform hundreds of new actions in both Apple and third-party apps. The feature is so extensive that it will cover many new features, but Apple says it will be able to use Siri to view articles from your Safari reading list, send a photo to someone from a specific location, and more. An example is provided. I will send Eric the photos from Friday’s party. ”
Siri can also complete multi-step tasks with a single command, such as editing a photo you took and sending it to someone.
Features rumored for iOS 19
All of the above features are part of iOS 18 and will arrive in an iOS 18 update, but rumors suggest that Apple is developing the next-generation version of Siri for iOS 19.
Siri in iOS 19 relies on the Large Language Model, or LLM. LLM powers ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Claude, and other AI chatbot services. The LLM version of “Siri” can have continuous conversations, making it more like a human conversation. “Siri” will be able to perform more complex tasks, making it more competitive with ChatGPT.
Apple plans to replace the current version of “Siri” with LLM “Siri” in the future. So far, it sounds like it will be announced in “iOS 19,” but the actual feature is similar to how the “Apple Intelligence” feature was expanded in the “iOS 18” update. It may not be available until the iOS 19 update is released.
The features of “iOS 19” will be announced at WWDC in June, and at least some new “Siri” features may be added when “iOS 19” is released in September 2025. There is a gender.
When will new Siri features arrive?
The features Apple is planning for iOS 18 are expected in iOS 18.4, which will likely be an update released in April. Apple will release iOS 18.3 in late January, followed by iOS 18.4 beta. iOS 18.4 will be in beta testing for several months before being released to the public.
iOS 19 features will be introduced in June and updates will start in September, but not all will be available at once and some features will be released in late 2025 or 2026. may be provided as an update.
