Apple AI enters chat: Ad changes expected

Apple has introduced ‘Apple Intelligence’, a suite of AI capabilities integrated into its systems. Apple is different from other technology companies moving into artificial intelligence. The company maintains data processing locally rather than cloud-based systems. Marketing expert Tom La Vecchia joins LiveNOW from FOX to explore new product rollouts.

Los Angeles – Apple’s latest iOS 18.1 update marks a major leap forward in AI technology with enhancements to Siri and Apple Intelligence. Designed to make iPhone smarter, these features use machine learning to adapt to your habits and provide highly personalized recommendations.

For example, Siri can now predict navigation routes, suggest app shortcuts based on your routine, and provide customized insights in real time. Apple Intelligence integrates with apps across your devices for a seamless user experience.

However, this AI-driven approach means the iPhone collects and analyzes more personal data than ever before, including information from financial apps, health trackers, and location-based services. While these features promise convenience, they also raise questions about how much access AI should be allowed to sensitive data.

How to protect your privacy amid advances in AI

As AI plays a central role in iOS 18.1, it’s important to ensure that privacy is not compromised. Here’s how to adjust your settings:

Turn off learning for sensitive apps

Apple Intelligence learns from app usage, but you can limit its scope by disabling learning for specific apps.

  1. go to setting > Apple Intelligence and Siri > app.
  2. Toggle “Learn from this app” off for apps that handle sensitive data, such as:financial apps: Protect your transaction details and account balance.health and fitness apps: Protect your personal health indicators.location-based apps: Avoid sharing your travel patterns or frequently visited places.
  3. financial apps: Protect your transaction details and account balance.
  4. health and fitness apps: Protect your personal health indicators.
  5. location-based apps: Avoid sharing your travel patterns or frequently visited places.

Adjust Siri suggestions

Customize how Siri uses AI to suggest actions.

  1. move to setting > Search with Siri.
  2. Toggle off specific suggestions like ‘Suggestions while searching’ or ‘Suggestions on lock screen’.

Apple announces new AI features and software

Dan Faggella from Emerj Artificial Intelligence Research joins LiveNOW’s Austin Westfall to discuss Apple’s new AI capabilities announced this week.

Manage Apple Intelligence permissions

You can control what Apple Intelligence learns and stores.

  1. go to setting > Privacy and security > Analysis and improvement.
  2. Disable “Share iPhone Analytics” to limit data collection for personalization.

Why it’s important to review your privacy settings

Apple often updates permissions with new iOS releases. By re-checking these settings after each update, you can ensure that no new permissions have been granted without your knowledge.

As iOS 18.1’s AI-driven features evolve, it’s worth revisiting your privacy settings regularly. This allows you to enjoy the benefits of smarter AI interactions without compromising your personal data.
