Today’s Dolce & Gabbana show opened with models centered around the kind of heroines on the stairs used to make dramatic entrances in Golden Age films. Everyone from Irina Shayk to Mariacarla Boscono had the same blonde, Marilyn-meets-Madonna hairstyle. And who else but Madge herself, whose face was obscured by a black lace veil (not to the credit), paid tribute?
Entitled ‘Italian Beauty’, the collection is a fusion of Old Hollywood and classic Italy, with plenty of Material Girl influence. Vittoria Ceretti opened in a cone bra bustier dress with a dominant silhouette reminiscent of one of the star’s signature ’80s looks. So did the combination of corset tops and pinstripe suits with trailing suspenders.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana also wore cropped jackets with micro shorts. Beaded flapper dresses with fringes (seems to be a recurring motif this season). And a supple floral dress. The transparent mesh material and see-through trench coat give it a sense of transparency. There were also touches of Malto Italiano, including cross earrings and dizzying heels.
At the end of the show, the designers came out to take a bow and made a beeline for their muse, wrapping her in a warm (and very Italian) embrace.
