A report on the impact of the Muslim Brotherhood was expected to be released on Wednesday, but the release was delayed by Macron’s office after the documents leaked to conservative media. An early version of the report seen by Politico said the Muslim Brotherhood spent a considerable amount of time promoting a fundamentalist agenda across France and Europe.
Many of the French governments have leaked to Leciro, a hard-line conservative who has been surged in popularity since joining Macron’s minority government in September. Retiro on Sunday won a landslide victory and became Les Reputes’ next leader. After the 2017 election overthrew French politics, the historically dominant French Central Right Party was relegated to political purgatory. Early votes show that he could become a serious candidate in the 2027 presidential election that he should run.
Retailleau recently discussed the report in multiple interviews with French media, accusing the Muslim Brotherhood of “inclined French society to Sharia’s laws.”
One presidential aide tried to downplay the Home Office’s role on the issue on Tuesday, claiming that all official decisions will be made at the Macron-based defense cabinet meeting.
A government official who spoke to Politico about the scene said Macron appears to have a “mood swing” at the meeting.
“I don’t know if he understands it…it’s the government that governs,” the official said.
