Forbes released a list of the world’s 10 most powerful countries in 2025, with the US leading the rankings, followed by China in second place. Israel holds 10th place. This ranking is based on several important factors, but India’s prominent absence (despite its large population, fourth-largest military and fifth-largest economy) sparked controversy.

Forbes revealed that the list was compiled by US news. The ranking was determined by five key parameters: leadership, economic influence, political power, strong international alliances and military power.

The ranking methodology was developed by BAV Group, a unit of global marketing company WPP, and is all related to US News & World Reports, in collaboration with researchers led by Professor David Reibstein of the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School.

As of February 2025, India ranks 12th among the most powerful countries in the world. This position considers India’s robust economy, influential international partnerships and military capabilities. When it comes to global GDP, India holds fifth position, heading behind the US, China, Germany and Japan.
