The company’s developer-centric meeting, Google I/O 2025, has been confirmed to be held on May 20th and 21st. TechGiant’s annual event will be held at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California. Google has begun registering for the event. Events are held both offline and online via live streams. Events usually consist of hardware and software announcements, developer-focused demonstrations and technical sessions, workshops and networking opportunities. Announcements related to Android 16 and Gemini are expected during the event.

Google I/O 2025: What to expect

In a blog post, the Mountain View-based tech giant confirmed that Google I/O 2025 is a two-day event, held on Tuesday, May 20th and Wednesday, May 21st. Includes meeting details, countdown clocks, and direct links to register for events.

Historically, the event begins with a keynote session by Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, highlighting the key products and software that will be introduced in calendar years. The keynote session is scheduled to begin at 10am (11:30pm).

New features in Android 16 could become a major focus during Pichai’s keynote speech. Google’s native AI chatbot Gemini could be another focus area where new Gemini 2.0 AI models are expected to be released. Last year, the company introduced the Gemini 1.5 Pro model with a context window of 2 million tokens.

The microsite also highlights Google AI Studio, the open source Gemma model, and NotebookLM, which allows you to see new upgrades during the event. There is no additional information at this time.

Recently, the company deployed the Android 16 Beta 1 update to compatible Google Pixel devices. The update introduces new live updates that show the status of ongoing activities, such as the food delivery app and Google Maps Navigation. This is similar to Apple’s live activity feature.

Android 16 adds predictive back animation to the back button when using the 3-button navigation mode. This was only available in gesture-based navigation when the user swipes back and holds the gesture.
