Individual fundraising schemes for Asian Game Medal prospects who are not elite enough to be on the Olympic podium

To reduce flavours from flagship’s Target Olympic Podium (TOPS) and ensure that only the real medal outlook remains part of it, the government has two tiers to fund Indian athletes. We plan to install the system.

And while the tops continue to exist, it is set up to launch a new Target Asia Game Group (TAGG), which is not enough to win medals in the game, but still gives a strong outlook for the Continental Mega Event. We plan to provide financial support to athletes who may continue to maintain it. It will then be held in Japan and Nagoya in 2026.

The restructuring of athlete fundraising has been discussed several months after the Mission Olympic Cell (MOC), a powerful organization that monitors the Parisiolmíns within the government and the preparations for major multidiscipline competitions.

Another scheme for the Asian Games was first proposed before the Parisian Games, but the concept lacked many takers. However, after India only won six medals in last year’s game, one silver and five bronzes – have returned to the table. Furthermore, less than a year after the Parisiolmín, India won over 100 medals for the first time at the Asian Games.

“The Asian game was not translated into Olympic medals,” the source said. “The sentiment was that while strict rules must be created for those eligible to fund under the top, athletes who may also win medals at the Asian Games must be encouraged.

“For example, in row-goats and track and field, he won medals in Asian games, but not at the Olympics except for Neeraj Chopra. Similarly, Kabaddi has not participated in the Olympics, but at ASIAD. It is an important sport for us, so we need to support our players,” the source added.

TAGG’s funding guidelines are not yet known.

On the other hand, for tops, it has been suggested that the main benchmark should be the ability to challenge medals at the Olympics, as the scheme’s name suggests.

There are currently nearly 300 athletes in the core and developmental groups who are currently receiving financial support under the top. One MOC official predicted that if the selection rules become stricter, the number could be reduced by half.

Being a part of the top gives athletes a great privilege. Once chosen, they come up with a customized training program, hire coaches and other support staff, and virtually choose their training base anywhere in the world. Their proposals will be reviewed by MOC members before they are approved.

During the three-year Olympic cycle from 2021 to 2024, the government spent Rs 72 crore under the top, almost double the amount spent in Rio in 2016.

Athletes not selected for tops will receive funding through other schemes, but will not have the freedom to personal coaching or tailor-made training programs unless supported by individual organizations.
