On Thursday, a joint meeting of film organizations in the Malayalam film industry decided to call for a double taxation on film tickets and an end to pay cuts by actors. .
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA), the federal film employee association of Kerala, the Kerala organization of the Film Exhibition Association, and the Kerala Film Distributor Association.
KFPA secretary B. Rakech said the entire film business will be stagnant after June 1st. He said the industry is staring at the crisis following a surge in box office revenue and actor pay packets.
The film group will meet Prime Minister Pinarai Vijayan by June 1 to assess him about the crisis and request that the film tickets end the double tax system. Rakesh said that enforcement agencies’ actions against copyright infringement have been a major threat to the industry and must be strengthened.
