Lockheed Martin has received a missile defense agency compensation agreement worth $2.8 billion to develop the terminal’s high-altitude area defense (THAAD) weapons system.
According to the award notice announced Friday, Lockheed will continue the efforts made under the previous advanced feature development agreement and work related to the development, integration and testing of UPGDATE in hardware and software.
Contract scope
Indefinite delivery/indefinite amount agreements also include initial fields. Obsolescence and mitigation; Information assurance and cybersecurity engineering. Quality, safety and mission guarantee. Logistics support. Product training for THAAD upgrades and features.
Work is mainly done in Sunnyvale, California and Dallas, Texas, with multiple sites.
The order period will run until January 31, 2035.
The MDA will issue initial task orders worth $12.7 million for system testing and evaluation work and will require $200,000 under this task order, using the 2025 Research and Development Testing and Evaluation Fund.
What is Thaad?
THAAD is designed to provide protection against threats and intercepted targets of targeted ballistic missiles outside the atmosphere.
The weapons system is interoperable with other ballistic missile defense systems and is designed to integrate incremental capabilities improvements to increase effectiveness against existing and emerging threats.
