The World Bank has warned Zimbabwe of economic loss due to climate.

HARARE, February 1 (SocialNews.xyz) World Bank (WB), when the climate change does not implement robust measures to work on phenomena, up to 12 % of Zimbabwe’s gross domestic product (GDP) every year. He warns that there is a possibility.

In the latest Zimbabwe’s economic update, launched in Hararare, Zimbabwe, WB encouraged Zimbabwe to strengthen recovery to climate -related shocks, focusing on agriculture as an important pillar.

According to the Zimbabwe -government statistics, agriculture has contributed from 11 % to 14 % of GDP and provides employment to about 70 % of the population and about 60 % of all raw materials in the industry.

However, the WB states that it is more and more vulnerable to the more serious climate event because it depends greatly on the production of rainy systems and corn in the country.

In the agricultural season between 2023 and 2024, Zimbabwe experienced severe Elnino -induced drought, and the yield of corn decreased by 60 % compared to the average of five years. The significant decrease in rainfall has led to a wide range of food anxiety and economic difficulties, combined with high temperatures.

WB has observed that the government’s ambitious targets to increase agricultural production to $ 12.5 billion by 2025 have been threatened by climate.

“The climate shock destroys GDP, trade balance, and financial stability. The drought by Eerninho alone caused a damage loss of about $ 363 million,” WB said.

“This drought and recovery cycle is indispensable to impair sustainable development, worsen the poverty level, and enhance the resilience of the agricultural sector,” he said. Co -author, Ethakira Mira, states.

She stated that a double approach was essential to strengthen Zimbabwe’s weather shock and climate change, which would include substantial investment and expected behavior in climate adaptation.

This report, titled “Improvement of Recovery for Weather Shock and Climate Change,” emphasized the opportunity for Zimbabwe to strengthen recovery to climate shock and further increase economic growth.
