Prithvi Sekar repeated his performance to win the Australian Open Deaf Tennis Championships as he defeated France’s Oliver Graves 6-3, 6-1 in the final at Melbourne Park on Sunday.

I served well to survive the match point. I saved one match point on the rake and then settled down to win it. I was confident and well prepared for the final against another good player. I am very happy with it,” Prithvi recalls.

He praised Anirudh Chandrasekhar for the training he had with him for three days before the championship for helping him get used to working left-handed. did.

Prithvi also got to watch some matches at Rod Laver Arena and other show courts.

“There’s a great atmosphere at the Australian Open. It was great to be there again and win the title,” said Prithvi, who will return to Chennai on Tuesday night.

Prithvi’s quarter-final opponent was his doubles partner Marco Carretta from Italy. It was thus a long drawn event “spending two hours and 20 minutes”.

“We won one match in the super tie-break in doubles and lost the other two matches in the super tie-break. Doubles was in round-robin format and we finished third,” Prithvi recalls.

Result (final): Prithvi Sekhar BT Oliver Grave (FRA) 6-3, 6-1. Semi-finals: Prithvi bt Marino Kegl (SLO) 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6). Quarterfinals: Prithvi Bt Marco Carretta (ITA) 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
