Mission 300 Energy Summit brings together African leaders and partners to transform the energy sector

Dar es Salaam, January 25, 2025 – African heads of state, business leaders and development partners will gather in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania tomorrow for the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit, raising ambitions to expand access to energy. This will lead to significant reform and action. Provide reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity to 300 million people in Africa by 2030.

Mission 300 is an unprecedented collaboration between the African Development Bank, the World Bank Group, and global partners to leverage new technologies and innovative financing to address Africa’s electricity access gap. Nearly 600 million Africans lack electricity, which is essential for development and job creation.

Several African heads of state and government will join more than 1,000 other participants at the January 27-28 summit, including strong representation from the private sector. Together they will chart Africa’s path towards universal access to energy.

Two important outcomes are expected from this week’s summit. The Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which outlines African governments’ commitments and practical actions to reform the energy sector, and the first set of national energy compacts, which provide country-specific blueprints. . Goals and timelines for implementing significant reforms.

In the first phase, 12 countries will announce energy compacts: Chad, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania and Zambia. Other African countries are also expected to develop compacts at a later stage.

The partnerships and commitments forged by the continent’s leaders and change-makers gathered in Dar es Salaam this week will help the continent achieve universal energy access, transform millions of lives, and accelerate sustainable development and job creation. It will shape your journey.
