President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Thursday welcomed Ukhna Khurelsukh, the first Mongolian head of state to visit in 21 years. The president’s four-day visit began with a ceremony at the presidential palace in the capital Ankara. The two leaders are scheduled to exchange views on expanding bilateral relations and international and regional issues.
Early Thursday morning, Ankara hosted a business meeting where representatives from both countries signed an agreement to establish a joint chamber of commerce. Mongolia and Turkiye maintain a bilateral trade volume of $140 million (4.96 billion Turkish lira).
The visit of a Mongolian president to Turkiye is the first in 21 years and aims to strengthen the historical and cultural ties between the Turkish and Mongolian peoples for mutual benefit.
Established on June 24, 1969, diplomatic relations between Turkiye and Mongolia have grown significantly, especially since the establishment of embassies in Ulaanbaatar and Ankara in 1996 and 1997, respectively.
More than 100 bilateral agreements have been signed, and the two countries have established a strong legal framework for cooperation across various fields.
Turkiye cherishes its deep historical ties with Mongolia, home to the Orkhon Inscription, Turkey’s oldest known monument.
