Donald Trump takes full credit for ‘epic’ Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal

West Palm Beach:

US President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday welcomed the hostage release and ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, reached just five days before his return to power.

“We have a deal on hostages in the Middle East. They will be freed soon. Thank you!” President Trump tweeted on his Truth social media account before an official announcement was made from outgoing President Joe Biden’s White House. He said this on the network.

In another Truth Social post, President Trump took full credit for the agreement, saying, “This EPIC ceasefire agreement was only possible as a result of November’s historic victory.” He believes the Trump administration’s efforts to pursue peace and negotiate a deal have given many people hope. A powerful signal to the world.

The deal is expected to include a gradual ceasefire, with Hamas releasing 33 of the roughly 100 hostages in Gaza over the first 42 days. Steve Witkoff, President Trump’s special envoy for the Middle East, played a key role in negotiating the deal, working closely with President Biden’s negotiators. President Trump thanked Witkoff and vowed that the United States would continue to work closely with Israel and its allies to ensure that Gaza never again becomes a safe haven for terrorists.

“We will continue to work closely with Israel and our allies to ensure that Gaza never again becomes a safe haven for terrorists,” he wrote.

This agreement is an important development in the region and represents a major change in the dynamics of the conflict. The Trump-era Abraham Accords, which established relations between Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, laid the foundation for further normalization deals. President Trump has expressed optimism that expanding the Abraham Accords is possible, even suggesting that Iran could be persuaded to join.

The Biden administration has been working toward a ceasefire agreement for months, and while it may not have secured the agreement itself, its efforts have certainly contributed to its progress. Trump’s warning that “hell” would break out in the Middle East if Hamas did not release the hostages before he took office may have also increased pressure for a deal.

Palestinians and Israelis are reacting with mixed emotions as the agreement is implemented. Large crowds in Gaza celebrated the news with cheers and honking car horns. But some Israelis have expressed skepticism, saying they will not trust the deal until all the hostages are returned.

Overall, the ceasefire agreement is an important step towards ending the devastating 15-month war in Gaza. Although challenges remain, the agreement offers a ray of hope for a more peaceful future for the region.
