US President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday welcomed the hostage release and ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, reached just five days before his return to power.
“We have a deal on hostages in the Middle East. They will be freed soon. Thank you!” President Trump tweeted on his Truth social media account before an official announcement was made from outgoing President Joe Biden’s White House. He said this on the network.
In another Truth Social post, President Trump took full credit for the agreement, saying, “This EPIC ceasefire agreement was only possible as a result of November’s historic victory.” He believes the Trump administration’s efforts to pursue peace and negotiate a deal have given many people hope. The deal is expected to include a gradual ceasefire, with Hamas releasing 33 of the roughly 100 hostages in Gaza over the first 42 days.
