image source, Getty ImagesFor those planning to travel early this morning, today will have been a chaotic day as heavy snow fell across much of the UK overnight.
The cold front has been especially strong in the north, forcing major airports to close their runways and leaving roads under severe weather warnings for much of the day.
As the day progressed, the condition of the infrastructure started to improve a bit, with Manchester Airport and Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport both reopening their runways from early morning closures. They are warning passengers that delays may still occur.

But when the snow turns to rain and the snow on the ground begins to melt, a flood warning is issued.external There are currently 23 flood warnings in place in the south of England, with a further 226 flood warnings in place.
The impact has already caused delays on trains, with flooded tracks and slowing trains.
However, the snow and frost is not completely gone, with five snow and ice warnings still in place across northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland this morning, meaning residents should expect a icy start.
