Sophia Loren celebrated her 90th birthday.
On Monday, September 23, her friend Giorgio Armani, also 90, shared a sweet clip of the film icon’s celebration following the milestone event on Friday, September 20.
The fashion designer’s page features a clip from Lauren’s birthday dinner, in which the Academy Award winner is serenaded with a special rendition of “Happy Birthday,” before smiling broadly and clapping at her table. It was shown that it was happening.
As attendees congratulated her, Lauren was seen covering her eyes with her hands, looking visibly surprised.

For the occasion, the Italian star wore a glittering silver outfit from the Giorgio Armani Prive collection, which she accessorized with a dazzling diamond necklace and earrings.
Armani’s Instagram account captioned the video, “A special 90th birthday celebration for Sophia Loren,” sending a shoutout to Loren’s son Edoardo Ponti and longtime friend Massimo Leonardelli.
Armani also shared a classic black and white shot where Lauren kisses him on the cheek and the two look glamorous, and in another photo, she sits in a chair next to the designer, smiling and lovingly kissing him. He also released a photo of him resting his head on his shoulder.

Lauren’s celebration comes after she was hospitalized after falling at her home in Geneva, Switzerland, in September 2023. A representative for the actress told PEOPLE at the time that Lauren suffered multiple fractures, including in her femur and hip.
In November, about six weeks after the fall, her manager Carlo Gusti assured PEOPLE that “everything is going very well” with her recovery.

Speaking to PEOPLE in 2016, Lauren, who competed in her first beauty pageant at age 14, talked about being in her 80s.
“When you’re 20, you don’t think you’ll be 80, but when you actually turn 80, you still can’t believe it,” she said.
“Oh my gosh, it’s been so many years, wow! I started when I was 15 and I was still skinny and the size of a small toothpick, and then I just kept growing and growing and growing. ” laughed the former Miss Italy finalist.

In the interview she also talks about the start of her career as a professional actress, making special mention of Italian star Marcello Mastroianni, who rose to fame and signed a five-film contract with Paramount Pictures in 1958. They previously co-starred in several movies.
“The most attractive one was Marcello Mastroianni,” she claimed. “He’s been a unique person in my career because I’ve worked with him for over 20 years of my life.”
“I mean, he was like my brother, he was like my husband. He was like everything to me. We knew each other very well, and he was very We worked together in a great way. We took photo after photo and they were all great successes,” Lauren said.
