Negotiators from the Pakistani government and the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are scheduled to hold important in-camera talks aimed at resolving ongoing political differences.

Parliament Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, who is facilitating the talks, has convened a meeting scheduled for January 2.

The meeting is scheduled for 11 am in Parliament House and will build on the discussions that started on December 23, said a report in the Express Tribune cited by PTI.

Imran Khan, the jailed former prime minister who founded Tehreek-e-Insaf, plans to present two key demands in writing to the next parliament after internal consultations.

On the government side, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Prime Minister’s Political Advisor Rana Sanaullah, Senator Irfan Siddiqui, Pakistan People’s Party’s Raja Parvez Ashraf, and Istekham-e-Pakistan Party’s Naveed Kamal It will be represented by a committee consisting of nine members, including Mr. (IPP) leader Aleem Khan, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Balochistan Awami Party’s Sardar Khalid Maghsi, Pakistan Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-P) ) leader Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.

Mr. Sadiq praised the leadership of both the government and the opposition for creating a constructive environment and expressed hope that these efforts will lead to improved political stability and solutions to Pakistan’s challenges.

The January 2 meeting is seen as an important step towards resolving the ongoing political polarization and promoting cooperation between the government and the PTI.
