Meta is reportedly expecting artificial intelligence (AI) characters to generate content on its social media platforms Instagram and Facebook.

These AI characters will exist alongside existing accounts on the platform, Connor Hayes, vice president of generative AI products at Meta, told the Financial Times (FT) in an article published on Thursday (December 26). ) told.

“They’ll have a bio and a profile picture, and they’ll be able to generate and share AI-powered content on the platform…that’s what we’re all about,” Hayes said in the report. mentioned in.

According to the report, hundreds of thousands of AI characters have already been created using Meta’s tool, which launched in the US in July, with plans to expand, but most of these characters are currently hidden by users. It is said that it has been done.

While some observers have warned that AI-generated content can be misused for purposes such as spreading misinformation or undermine users’ trust in the content they’re viewing, Meta’s rules state that AI-generated content Content must be clearly labeled, the report said.

Along with tools to create AI characters, Meta is also adding AI-powered features designed to help creators improve their content. According to the report, the company is introducing AI-powered tools to edit photos and create AI assistants that can answer questions from creators’ followers, and will launch text-to-video services for creators next year. They plan to add generation software.

In August 2023, it was reported that Meta was developing an AI-powered chatbot prototype known as a “persona” that could have human-like conversations with users of social media platforms.

Personas in development at the time included one who spoke like Abe Lincoln and another who spoke like a surfer and offered travel advice. These are meant to be fun for users, while also providing new search features and recommendations.

In September 2023, Meta introduced 28 AI-powered personas, each with personalities and unique interests, who can interact with users across the company’s social media and messaging platforms.

“We’ve been developing AI that has more personality, opinions, interests, and is a little more fun to interact with,” the company said in a blog post at the time.
