2024 was a frenetic year for Indian fashion. As ever, there was eclecticism, experimentation, runway shows across the country, brand debuts, and a talented new avant-garde that reinvigorated what style means today. Parallel to the kaleidoscopic trends, elaborate, micro-themes have emerged that effortlessly fit the era, the ‘core and aesthetic’. Clickbait has become currency as we live chronically virtual lives, as brat summer, ultra-low-key, stealth wealth, mob wife aesthetics, and cottagecore reinforce our digital ubiquity. I did. On the pop culture front, from Ryan Gosling singing “I’m Just Ken” in a crystal-encrusted fuchsia suit at the Oscars to Ananya Panday’s Call Me Ba character Bella There was a lot of action until he gave a lesson on #BehenCode. Gen Z style.

As the year draws to a close, Vogue India collaborates with AJIO to tell 2024 fashion stories that drive four trends for next year: Urban Craft, Sports Glam, Code Nostalgia and Modern Bohemian.

Essentially a trickle-up form of fashion, urban craft was first discovered on the streets and among small communities before hitting the runways, social media, and smart screens. It represents a seamless interplay between classic and contemporary styles, where Indian craftsmanship finds new expression in urban and western attire.

Call it sports style, luxurious athleisure, or a glamorous iteration of athleisure. Sports Glam presents a sporty silhouette with a glitter-friendly finish. This fashion field allows you to embrace your athletic side while bringing your own style A-game from the court to the club.

From the Y2K revival of belly button-baring tank tops and cargo pants to the ’90s renaissance of slip dresses, bomber jackets, and flannel shirts, Code Nostalgia continues to establish itself as a firm favorite. Whether it’s the urge to lean on the familiarity of the past or the opportunity to reinvent the future, this new-age retro revival will be even more evolved in 2025.

Finally, in the new year, Bohemian gets a contemporary reboot with Modern Bohemian. It’s an evolving blend of the careless influences of traditional bohemian style and the clean lines and minimalism of contemporary wear.
