X continues to roll out updates to its Grok AI chatbot, which it recently made available for free to all users.
Grok is the centerpiece product of Elon Musk’s xAI initiative and is separate from X, but under the X Corp. brand. It also relies heavily on X insights to power its responses, intertwining both X apps and xAI.
And with xAI recently raising another $6 billion in funding and building a huge AI computing cluster in Memphis, X and Musk are hoping to get more people using Grok and see what Grok can do. , wants to show off how it stacks up against other generative AIs. Chatbots on the market.
First, X has further integrated X with web search data to improve Grok’s answers.
As you can see in this example, Grok’s responses now include reference links and citations to help clarify and contextualize its output.
We’ve also improved Grok’s image generation model and added updated Grok buttons to X posts. This makes it easier to get more context about X posts in Steam.
Also notice the updated Grok icon on the new button. Grok has switched from a box with a slash to a new logo design to further differentiate its features.
X is also currently testing voice queries for Grok, allowing you to ask questions of the app using your voice.
That would bring it more in line with Meta AI, which is already available for voice queries in Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
However, meta-AI is not the true target of Musk’s Generational AI initiative.
Musk’s real focus is OpenAI, an organization he helped found in its early stages and then was kicked out of the project over demands for control.
Fast forward to 2016, when OpenAI experiments began, and Musk pledged $100 million in funding to the OpenAI project and its goal of developing AI in a secure and open way. . Musk’s subsequent bid to become CEO of the organization was rejected by the OpenAI board, forcing him to leave the project and withdraw some of his donations.
After a few years, OpenAI became a major company and started making money from its projects. And Elon was so repulsed by both the rejection and the fact that his initial donations to the project were part of commercial funding that he launched his own AI project to effectively kill OpenAI. I was furious.
This is one of the reasons why Elon is ramping up the development of AI projects also relevant to Tesla and ramping up efforts towards fully self-driving technology.
And Grok is what xAI has to show for this now.
I’m not convinced that AI chatbots add anything significant to the social media experience. And even if it were made available to all 570 million people, I’m not sure many X users would find much value in this tool. user.
However, that may not be its primary purpose, as xAI continues to develop and explore new use cases for its products.
But Grok has also improved, and if you’re looking for an AI chatbot, X’s access to real-time information may be worth it.
