The UK stock market is dead. Long live the British stock market. What can investors expect from the UK’s evolving or disintegrating capital markets?
The debate over how to revive moribund local stock exchanges has raged for years. The decisions of several FTSE 100 companies, most recently Ashtead, to change their primary listing location to places such as the US have not helped. Most of the reported views center on what UK government officials and the London Stock Exchange, as well as large local asset managers, believe.
But what about individual investors? Since July 2021, the outflow of individuals from UK stocks has continued for 32 consecutive months.
This group also deserves a voice in this discussion. Too often they are seen as less important by institutional investors who are indifferent to so-called “smart money.” If you are a retail investor and have ideas to share on how to strengthen the UK stock market, we would love to hear from you.
