24:53Tom Rooney: A respected Canadian actor about what is needed to give birth to a dog
Tom Rooney is one of the most loved stage actors in Canada. Over the past 30 years, he has taken on some of the theatre’s most memorable roles, from Romeo and Juliet’s Romeo to My Just Woman Henry Higgins.
But Rooney has played a major role in the modern Canadian theater. Currently, he re -mount 15 dogs at the CAA theater in Toronto and plays a black poodle Majnoun. The play is based on a book with the same name that won the Andrealexis Jiller Award. This follows a group of dogs given human consciousness and language gifts.
Although Rooney doesn’t wear full dog costumes in the play (he says there are several costume pieces that suggest the breed of dogs played by each actor), he barks, pants, pants, pants, and more. Take over all the mannerism of the dog. Scratch and sniping.

“We’ve always tried to stay away from all fours,” Rooney tells Q’s Tom Power in an interview. “We are trying to do the essence. We will propose a dog.
“What I find very interesting is the little things I can do to propose a dog. The only tilt of the head, the energy of the dog. Dogs are generally moving. The eyebrows are always moving. They are all alive.
Rooney was reading Alexis books before joining the cast of the play. He said the story was very tragic, but not without humor and beauty.
It’s great to try to use all dogs-Tom Rooney
“It’s about poetry, language, love, but it’s incredibly interesting,” he says. “I loved the challenge of letting dogs back to the stage with the people involved.”
But do veteran stage actors like Rooney feel a little ridiculous to play dogs? “Absolutely,” he says. “Many nights,” I’m here, I’m playing dogs. I made it. ” “
Until February 16th, you can catch 15 dogs at the CAA theater in Toronto.
