I would appreciate someone on either side of the conflict asking people on the other side for examples of controversial claims. Thank you, Philip Way, for taking to heart your suggestion about the “Fox News lies” despite the fact that you “can’t find the lies.”

I myself hear many lies on Fox News, but unless I can show clear evidence of such lies, my story goes beyond a “he said, he said” stalemate. there is no. When I read your letter a few minutes ago (“A Weight Lifted Off My Shoulders,” January 2nd), I was immediately reminded of the big lie that Fox admitted costing it $787.5 million. Ta.

For more information, Google Dominion’s lawsuit against Fox. You can read the entire lawsuit or a summary of it online. Let me quote a few lines from the Wikipedia summary. “Dominion Voting Systems v. Fox News Network is a U.S. defamation lawsuit filed in March 2021 alleging that Dominion voting machines were rigged to steal the 2020 U.S. presidential election from then-President Donald Trump. The lawsuit alleges that several Fox programs aired false statements.

“Dominion has made allegations against Maria Bartiromo, Tucker Carlson, Lou Dobbs, Sean Hannity, Jeanine Pirro… (and guests Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell) between November 2020 and January 2021. focused on. …Fox News’ internal communications have been made public, with prominent hosts and executives aware that the station is reporting false statements, yet continuing to report for financial reasons to retain viewers. It was shown that

On April 18, 2023, shortly before the case went to trial, Fox and Dominion reached a settlement. “Fox News agreed to pay Dominion $787.5 million and acknowledge a court’s earlier ruling that Fox aired false statements about Dominion. …This, to the best of our knowledge, This is the largest media defamation settlement in U.S. history.

Brother Way, I think you’ll agree that if Fox didn’t have that pattern of several hosts lying (internal communications showed they were aware of the false statements) ), Fox would never have paid 3/4 of the $1 billion and admitted the lie. In fact, instead of paying Dominion, Fox would have sued Dominion for that amount.

Of course, these lies about Dominion were perpetrated by Donald Trump, Giuliani, Powell and others even after Trump lost some 60 vote-counting lawsuits in swing states in 2020. As you can imagine, you have to be an extreme cynic about the American legal system to believe that all the judges in charge of counting votes, including several appointed by President Trump, are “crooked.” No.

So, Brother Way, you should keep in mind the claims about “Fox’s Lies”. It includes some very expensive lies that even the judge and Fox had to admit. My wife Martha encourages you and all of us to subscribe and read PolitiFact, which calls balls and strikes against every team.

Oh, I recently had a great coffee chat with Irv Peckham and Evan Knappenberger. Knappenberger isn’t actually the Grinch. He just aired that one song in the newspaper.
