NATO’s Transformation Command has launched an Innovation Challenge Competition to develop solutions for the so-called Russian KAB, a guided bomb with a unified gliding and correction module (UMPK). The term competitive states that the solution should be simple and simple and does not require long training or integration.
Please note that the solution may be in the “advanced concept” or the adaptation stage of existing available solutions. The proposal must achieve at least one. It requires detection, countering satellite navigation, using electronic warfare, destroying the bomb itself, countering carriers to prevent fire conditions, or protecting potential target objects. It is important that solutions are low-cost and easy to scale in terms of resources.

It should be noted that only teams from NATO countries can participate in the competition. At the same time, Ukraine already appears to have a solution to counter the Russian KAB, which proves its effectiveness on the battlefield.

The competition proposal will be accepted until March 13th, with results announced from March 27th to 28th. So we’re talking about a rather short time frame. It is worth remembering that last year, the same organization developed an automated minefield clearance method and held a race to strengthen UAV resistance to electronic warfare.
It is difficult to predict what will be offered and how the competition will end. But the very fact that it was retained can also be seen as evidence that NATO sees the threat posed by the Russian KAB not only in Ukraine but in itself. Ultimately, the whole concept of war in the context of total air domination is certainly fantastic, but it mainly depends on the United States. Furthermore, it is important to predict what actions will be taken if something goes wrong.
The development of such guided ammunition suggests that its range of use will be expanded. The American project provides a good example. This adds a powered JDAM that adds a miniature jet engine to the JDAM-er, and a secret ERAM bomb in the range of 463 km. It is clear that Russia will follow a similar path.
Previous Defense Express reported that KNDS would purchase the legendary railroad car factory to produce parts for the RCH 155 and Leopard 2.
