French media slams Bharatiya Janata Party, claiming its report was used for political gain

NEW DELHI: French investigative news agency Mediapart has accused the BJP of “instrumentalizing” a recent report for political gain.
The accusations refer to Mediapart’s investigation into funding for the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) and follow the BJP’s claims that the US State Department was involved in a conspiracy to destabilize the Indian government. be.
Mediapart publisher and director Karine Futo issued a statement on Sunday accusing the BJP of misusing the report. “Media Part firmly condemns that Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the Bharatiya Janata Party has instrumentalized his recently published investigative article on OCCRP to serve his party’s political objectives and attack freedom of the press. “I condemn it as such,” Mr Photoau said.
She clarified that Mediapart’s report does not support the BJP’s conspiracy theories and expressed solidarity with journalists who are striving to uncover the truth about India.
The BJP did not respond to the accusations. But privately, he attributed this criticism to the pressure exerted by liberals on French investigative journalism.
The U.S. Embassy on Saturday responded to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s claims about State Department funding for OCCRP, calling it “unfortunate.”
