On January 9, 2025, the Hellenic Air Force took delivery of the last Rafale fighter jet, completing the procurement of 24 French-made fighter jets.
The single-seat Rafale EG (serial number 457) arrived at Tanagra Air Base just after 13:00 local time after a direct flight from the Dassault factory in Bordeaux/Mérignac. The aircraft was assigned to the 332nd Mira Geraki (Hawk’s 332nd Squadron), part of the 114th Fighter Wing.
Greece’s initial EUR 2.5 billion contract for 18 Rafale aircraft was signed in January 2021 and includes 10 used single-seat Rafale EG aircraft, 4 new Rafale EG aircraft, and a used Rafale DG two-seat aircraft. It included two aircraft and two brand new Rafale DG aircraft. The contract also included the supply of weapons, initial support, training of pilots and technicians, and necessary infrastructure development at Tanagra. The first Greek Rafale was delivered to Tanagra in July 2021. The six aircraft were initially stored in France for pilot training, and these were delivered to Tanagra in January 2022.
In March 2022, a further six new aircraft (four one-seaters and two two-seaters) were ordered for €1.1 billion, with the last one to be delivered on January 9, 2025.
