Damien Wayne has officially given up on being a part of the Batman family.
After a series of tough encounters with a seemingly supernatural serial killer known as Memento, the eponymous hero of Batman and Robin #18 face some very different concerns. For the former, they include securing his city and, more importantly, ensuring the safety of his family in the face of such overwhelming enemies. But for the latter, it means turning the hunt for memorials into his final mission as Robin, and that’s what Damian Wayne means.

Originally Batman: The Devil’s son by Mike W. Barr and Jerry Bingham in 1987, Damien Wayne, began as a more vague concept than an independent character. Damien, son of Bruce Wayne and Talia Al Guru, made his first proper appearance on the mainline continuity page of DC Comics until 2006’s Batman #655 by Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert I didn’t. In this modern incarnation, the character is brought to Gotham City by Talia to observe his father during his actions before embarking on any kind of relationship with the Dark Knight.
Unfortunately, all this early plot was formulated by Al Ghul of Ra in the hopes of using his own grandson as his next living ship. Discovering Damian’s existence, Batman’s life is enveloped in the mystery and deeply buried secrets that he has been beneath his feet all along. Thankfully, by the time the dust settled, Damian was given the opportunity to not only be safe, but also to know both his father and the similarities between his normal life in Gotham City as the latest Robin of his time.
