South Korea, together with countries such as France and Italy, has asked about Deepseek’s data practices and submit written requests for information on how the company processes user information.
Seoul’s Defense Ministry blocked Deepseek from an internet-connected military computer on Thursday, but the Ministry of Trade said access to all PCs within the agency was temporarily restricted.
“Access to Deepseek from a military work computer has been blocked,” a Ministry of Defense spokesman said in Asia this week.
“The ministry has strengthened security precautions regarding the use of generated AI and has implemented the necessary preemptive measures for military work equipment.”
The Ministry of Trade said Deepseek had not responded to data watchdog inquiries.
